Last season was a memorable one for the TCU football program. Not only did the team win the Rose Bowl, but eight former Frogs were taken in either April’s NFL draft or signed with a team as a free agent. These rookies will face many hardships as they adapt to the faster pace of NFL football in a constricted time frame.

After sweeping Texas Tech, UConn, and Grambling State last weekend the TCU women’s volleyball team looks to continue their success in the SMU Doubletree Invitational this weekend in Dallas.  The Frogs open play tonight against crosstown rival SMU at 7 p.m. and will play against Lamar University (1-2) and Alabama (3-1) Saturday afternoon.

TCU won their twenty second game of the season behind the stellar performance of starting pitcher Steven Maxwell. Maxwell won his fifth game this season lowering his era to 3.00 on the season. He dominated the Lobos hitters scattering nine hits and two earned runs in his complete game. He had eight strikeouts and no walks. New Mexico drops to 10-22 on the year.

TCU (20-10) suffered a loss in the first game of the series against New Mexico. The Frogs held a 1-0 lead for five innings before a rocky sixth inning took starter Kyle Winkler out of the game. The Lobos roughed up relief pitcher Stefan Crichton to the tune of seven hits and six earned runs. Overall the Frogs' bullpen gave up eight runs in three innings of work.

As opening day for Major League Baseball looms closer, don't crown the Philadelphia Phillies as the National League pennant winner just yet. After Friday's home loss to New Mexico, head men's basketball coach Jim Christian said he did not look forward to the season ending. In fact, he said he would coach 20 more games to win one more. Christian will have one last chance to get his second Mountain West Conference victory of the season at Air Force Academy Wednesday.

The No. 47 TCU Men's Tennis losing streak has been pushed to five. TCU lost 5-2 to the No. 33 Mississippi State Bulldogs Friday. The Frogs started strong, winning the doubles matches. However, in singles play the Bulldogs crushed TCU, winning on five of the six courts.

It has happened before; an All-Star fireball-throwing closer is converted into a starter. The result is usually the same; closers are just not as dominant when they move to the starting rotation. The reasons for converting Neftali Feliz are obvious 8212; Feliz has a 100 mph fastball and an electric curveball, he was named the 2010 American League Rookie of the Year, and he led all rookies with 40 saves in 43 attempts. While the Rangers need more depth at starting pitching, converting Feliz into a starter would compromise the Rangers' excellent bullpen.

The Frogs defeated the University of Kansas 7-1 in the second of a three game series. Junior pitchers Kyle Winkler and Erik Miller combined for a one-hitter, allowing one unearned run. Together they struck out 11 Jayhawks. A new series attendance record was set with 10,500 fans at the first two games of the series. Saturday's game totaled 4,401 fans. Right fielder junior Brance Rivera had three of TCU's 11 hits. Seniors Jimmie Pharr and Jerome Pena each had two.

Alabama defeated TCU 4-3 at Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center. TCU suffered its second loss in a row, dropping the Horned Frogs to 2-2. TCU won the doubles competition 2-1. The Horned Frogs fared poorly in singles play losing four of the six matches. On the first court senior Emanuel Brighiu and senior Christopher Price, took on Alabama juniors Ricky Doverspike and Vikram . Brighiu and Price trailed early, but rallied to take the 7-5 lead. Reddy made a sensational dive to pull the score to 7-6. Brighiu and Price held of a "Bama rally to win 50-30 and give TCU the victory.
