With graduation just weeks away, senior music major Lydia Garrett is looking forward to following her dreams of using music as a tool to help others. Garrett will be attending Texas Woman’s University in Denton to continue her education in a music therapy program. According to Garrett, it is one of the oldest music therapy programs in the country.

In an effort to unite the running community on campus, first-year criminal justice major Chris Gresens created the TCU Running Club this semester. Gresens said he noticed the gap in the various clubs offered at the university and immediately took action.

Women of all ages gathered in the Sam Baugh Indoor Practice Facility for the fourth annual TCU Women’s Baseball Clinic, a fundraiser for Susan G. Komen for the Cure. Julie May, assistant director of marketing for TCU Athletics, said she was pleased with the turnout at this year’s clinic, noting that attendance has grown every year.

The Lone Star Film Society hired TCU’s student-led strategic communication agency, Roxo, to create marketing strategies for the 2012 Lone Star Film Festival. LyTer Green, a copywriter and account executive for Roxo, said the agency has created a cross-promotional marketing strategy that utilizes social media, guerilla marketing, trivia and various contests to raise awareness throughout the community for the festival, which will take place from Nov. 7-11.

In an effort to bring awareness, promote human rights and globalize the campus, the Intensive English Program (IEP) is sponsoring a young man from Rwanda to help improve his English skills and assist his goal of becoming the future president of his home country. This is the first year the IEP has offered the scholarship, which covers all expenses including program tuition, housing, food and textbooks, said IEP Director Kurk Gayle. The university has partnered with Lewis & Clark College, located in Portland, Ore., to support rebuilding efforts and English education programs in Rwanda.
