Senior Johan de Beer is going to miss this. Next week, he will board a plane with four other members of the men’s golf team and travel to Kohala Coast, Hawaii to compete in the Amer Ari Invitational.

Five members of the men’s golf team will travel to Kona, Hawaii, Sunday to compete in the Amer Ari Invitational. Head coach Bill Montigel said he handpicked these five men to participate in the tournament based on how they played.

Richard Sybesma is the kind of coach who could crack a joke or scream, depending on the circumstances.  “He knew when it was time to put the hammer down and when it was time to make a joke,” said Ron Forrest, a former Frog swimmer and current club swim coach for the Fort Worth Area Swim Team.

Men’s golf team head coach Bill Montigel said he felt confident that the Horned Frogs would perform well at the upcoming Jack Nicklaus Invitational in Dublin, Ohio, Oct. 10-11.

JT Sundling transferred from a school with two national championship titles to take a swing at singles and help the Horned Frogs secure a national title this semester. Sundling came to TCU, a team that lacks a national championship title, from the University of Southern California and its three-time national championship tennis team.

It was his second time ever to compete in cross-country, and freshman Preston Newsome was the first Horned Frog to cross the finish line at the UTA Season Opener on Sept. 10. Newsome earned 10th-place for men with a time of 21:15 for the four-mile course. Overall, the men’s team placed third with honors at 52 points. Baylor earned the team title with 19 points.

Coach Richard Sybesma has been the head coach of the Horned Frog Swimming and Diving team for 33 seasons, but this time around, he knows he has an advantage.

Dorm rooms are small. For two college students, they are tiny. For three, they are infinitesimal. But TCU students are accustomed to making space for their fellow Frogs. This is not the first school year students have had to triple-up in residence hall rooms, squeeze into activities rooms, or simply find off-campus housing. We want to know when it will be the last.
