Nine counties make up the The Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex and are under what is classified as a non-attainment zone for ozone, according to the Environmental Protection Agency. The EPA proposed to move DFW's rating from moderate to serious, where the Metroplex would join six other areas as serious offenders or higher.
Michael Slattery, director of the university's Institute for Environmental Studies, said the downgrade to serious did not surprise him.

California and Southern California played at the newly-renovated Rose Bowl on Oct. 28, 1922, and since then, the Rose Bowl has been the site of numerous New Year's Day college football games.
Eighteen Heisman Trophy winners, 28 national champions and 191 consensus All-Americans have played at Pasadena's historic stadium and the Horned Frogs have a chance to join the list.
Head coach Gary Patterson said he does not know if his players will realize the magnitude of the game until they walk onto the field to face Wisconsin.

In 1929, TCU went 9-0-1 and won the Southwest Conference title, starting talks that the team's former home, Clark Field, was not big enough to hold the number of fans attending games. Construction to build Amon G. Carter Stadium started after the season.
In 2010, TCU is 11-0 and has clinched a share of the Mountain West Conference title. Talks began that the stadium did not match the quality of the product on the field, and a renovation project will start with a Dec. 5 implosion.

Dear TCU students and fans,
After logging on to Facebook and Twitter following the Horned Frogs' 40-35 win over San Diego State, I found a number of negative things were posted about the football team, such as: "Please inform us fans next time you decide to only play two quarters," and "I hope we don't get left out completely from a BCS bowl if Boise passes us after tonight."

Holding the No. 23 ranking in the Associated Press preseason poll, the Horned Frogs women's basketball team has never been ranked higher before the season started.
With three players who averaged 20 minutes or more returning, head coach Jeff Mittie said playing experience would be important.
"You can have seniors that maybe haven't been on the floor but ours have and they've all started in their career," the twelfth-year head coach said. "I think their experience of having been there and been through the process, hopefully helping some of these younger players."

Bright lights are something the Horned Frogs should get used to. After a 48-6 beatdown of UNLV Saturday under the bright lights of the Las Vegas strip, the spotlight of the college football world will shine on Salt Lake City this week when ESPN's College GameDay will arrive to watch No. 5 Utah host No. 3 TCU.
Saturday will mark the third time in the last two seasons that GameDay will be at a TCU game.
