Unlike football, volleyball steals a pint-sized significant fan base: the under-10-years-old girls. Clad in TCU cheer uniforms or oversized volleyball tees, even the smalls of which don’t fit their tiny figures, they’re easy to miss among the crowd. If it weren’t for the excited waving of their TCU poms, you might miss them altogether.

TCU women's volleyball coach Prentice Lewis had just announced some good news. After a string of two-a-day practices, she called for a day off. “Praise the Lord!” yelled a player as she jumped up, prompting laughter from her teammates.

After losing a close match to Baylor earlier this season, TCU volleyball is ready for round two. The Frogs take on the Bears for the second time this season on Wednesday, and tensions are high after a close loss in the last matchup between the two teams.

TCU volleyball fell 3-0 to No. 7 Texas in their eighth straight loss. In the second meeting between the teams this season, Texas defeated TCU 25-17, 25-16, and 25-17 at Wednesday evening’s game. Sophomore Mattie Burleson led the offense with nine kills while Senior Meghan Horio contributed 11 digs.

Just four days after TCU football defeated Baylor in Waco, the Horned Frog volleyball team will make the same trek down I-35 to play a road match against the Bears. After 3-0 losses to Big 12 teams the past three weeks, TCU toppled to sixth in the conference rankings. The Frogs are currently on a four-match losing streak and hold a 2-4 record in conference play.

Four is a big number this week for TCU Volleyball. It’s the Frogs’ ranking in the Big 12 standings. The number of Big 12 games TCU will have under its belt after facing the Longhorns. The number of consecutive seasons in which the Frogs will have battled the Longhorns.

TCU (13-2) swept Texas Tech (11-5) at the Frogs’ first Big 12 match at home.

No. 3 USC swept TCU at the Frogs’ final tournament of the season Friday night. USC defeated TCU 26-24, 25-22, and 27-25, ending the Frogs’ nine-game winning streak.

The TCU volleyball team's first match in the Molten Invitational slates the Frogs against No. 3 USC. The Frogs (9-1) will enter the last tournament riding on a nine-game winning streak. In the past eight seasons, TCU left a tournament with more losses than wins once.

  Sloane Sunstrum got a pretty sweet deal coming into college. The 5’ 11” athlete sharpened her volleyball skills from fourth grade on, securing the eyes of college scouts nationwide. Though she initially looked to attend an out-of-state school, she finally set her sights just down the road from her home in Southlake.
