When I came to Texas Christian University in 2008, I was nervous about what would happen. More weight was on my shoulders than the average student at TCU. How could I live as openly gay, and where could I safely express that? I was blessed to find the Gay-Straight Alliance, without which I might still be hiding who I am today.

More and more this past year, I have attempted to read the Skiff to better understand what it is that makes students on campus read or not read its content. I am all for the push of a newspaper to an audience. Much like entertainment television, readers want interesting stories to tell their comrades and families about what is going on around campus.

Recently the media have extensively covered efforts by the Gay-Straight Alliance and the Iris Reaction to have a resource center on campus and a Living Learning Community for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and questioning students. The LLC DiversCity Q was approved, and efforts to create the resource center are slowly progressing.
