The No. 45 women’s tennis team shut out crosstown rival SMU 7-0 Wednesday night for the first time in the last four meetings between the two teams at Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center.

Chancellor Victor Boschini said the university conducted a study that showed some rooms could be used up to three times more efficiently and discussed the addition of more 8 a.m. and Friday classes as a possible solution.

“I feel much better about our team today than I did before we left, which is weird to say considering we lost the series,” head coach Jim Schlossnagle said.

Head coach Dave Borelli said it has been hard to deal with all the injuries, but the team could only control how it reacts.

For the last time in program history, the TCU track & field team will be competing in the Mountain West Indoor Championships.
The team will be traveling to Albuquerque, N.M. where the 60-degree, 200-meter state of the art track is located. The facilities have received high reviews from athletes, coaches and fans, according to the University of New Mexico website.

Junior catcher Josh Elander earned three preseason accolades for his strong performance in the 2011 baseball season.
Baseball America named Elander a second-team preseason All-American, and in December, he was named a second-team preseason All-American by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association. Collegiate Baseball also named him a third-team All-American.
