Greek This Week: Sept. 17-21

Kappa Lambda Delta sorority will hold a week-long event called Kappa D’feating Autism to raise awareness on campus. 

This week, Pi Kappa Phi will hold push week, a series of events that raise money and awareness for Push America, benefitting people with disabilities.

Monday, Sept. 17:

• Kappa Lambda Delta “Kranes for a Kause” is from 7 - 9 p.m. in the Chambers on the third floor of the BLUU and is co-hosted by the Asian Student Association. This is a chance for students to come and learn how to fold traditional origami cranes, other animals and hats.
• Sigma Kappa will be serving Sno Kones on the east side of the library from 1:30-3:30 p.m. The Sno Kones are from FrogBerry and are free for students and faculty. However, there will be an opportunity for everyone to give donations that will go towards Sigma Kappa’s Philanthropy, the Alzheimer’s Association.
• Pi Kappa Phi 24-hour bike ride starts at 12 p.m. in front of the library.

Tuesday, Sept. 18:

• Kappa Lambda Delta “Kurious for Autism” from 5-6:30 p.m. in Hillel on the third floor of the BLUU. There will be two speakers from Behavioral Innovations, a center that helps children and their families deal with autism.
• Pi Kappa Phi 24-hour bike ride ends at 12 p.m. Penny jars will be set out around the entrances to Market Square to raise money from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. (100 percent of those donations will go to Push America.) They will also have fund raising night at Potbelly from 5-8 p.m. and 25 percent of all profits will be donated to Push America.

Wednesday, Sept. 19:

• Pi Kappa Phi will provide penny jars around the entrances to Market Square from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. They will cap off their week with the sorority song formation competition in the Rose Garden from 5-8 p.m.

Thursday, Sept. 20:

• Kappa Lambda Delta “Krafts for Kids” from 8-9:45 p.m. in Hillel on the third floor of the BLUU and is co-hosted by Omega Delta Phi. Students can help put together baskets of toys, crayons, snacks and other items for the children of Behavioral Innovations.

Friday, Sept. 21:

• Kappa Lambda Delta “Autism ArKade” will be held from 7-9 p.m. in Beck on the third floor of the BLUU. There are five activities that each highlights a sense (touch, taste, sound, sight, smell). TCU students can participate in simulation activities to experience what it’s like to be autistic.
• Sigma Kappa will have their third-annual Belt Buckle Ball at River Ranch in the Stockyards on from 6-10 p.m. Belt Buckle Ball is an auction, dinner and dance for Sigma Kappa family friends and alumnae. Last year they had more than 500 attendees and raised around $12,000 for the Alzheimer’s Association, which won the sorority the National Ultra Violet Campaign Award.
