TCU women's soccer head coach Dan Abdalla announced the schedule for the 2011 season Wednesday. The Horned Frogs' home slate includes nine matches at Garvey-Rosenthal Soccer Stadium, and the squad will play all but one non-conference match within the state.
"I'm really excited about how the 2011 schedule has shaped up," Abdalla said. "Every non-conference opponent will be in the mix for a championship and post season berth. That non-conference challenge will be a great opportunity to prepare us for a conference schedule, in which more so than any other year, every team will have a chance to win a MWC Championship."
The Frogs will open the season on the road, traveling to Stillwater, Okla., to battle 2010 NCAA quarterfinalist Oklahoma State on Aug. 19. The Cowgirls are one of three NCAA tournament teams that the Frogs will square off against in 2011. In the last meeting in Stillwater, TCU took down OSU with a 3-2 decision in a double-overtime match in 2000.
The Frogs will debut the 2011 roster to their home crowd on Sunday, Aug. 21, taking on Lamar University for the first time in program history. The home opener is scheduled to start at 1 p.m.
TCU will remain in Fort Worth to host former Conference-USA rival Rice for a Friday night showdown on Aug. 26. TCU has claimed the last two meetings against the Owls.
After hitting the road to battle Texas State on Sept. 2, the Frogs come home to Fort Worth to host Missouri on Sept. 4. The 1 p.m. match will be the Tigers' first trip to Garvey-Rosenthal Soccer Stadium.
TCU heads to Lubbock, Texas, to play a pair of matches against Toledo and Hofstra as part of the Red Raider Classic, Sept. 9-11. Toledo enters the 2011 season on the heels of a 15-win campaign last fall, while Hofstra returns to the pitch after setting a school record for victories (19) and defeating Connecticut in the opening round of the 2010 NCAA tournament.
The Frogs will round out the three-match road swing with a showdown at Stephen F. Austin on Sept. 16, before hosting Northwestern State and Northern Arizona on Sept. 18 and Sept. 23, respectively. The final non-conference road match of the fall will pit TCU against Houston Baptist on Sept. 25.
Entering the final season as a member of the Mountain West Conference, the Frogs lead off the league slate at UNLV on Sept. 30 in Las Vegas, Nev. The Frogs have taken the last two games against the Rebels, including a 3-2 overtime victory in the desert in 2009.
TCU will welcome San Diego State to Fort Worth for the first home conference match on Oct. 7. The Frogs defeated the Aztecs in 2008, knocking SDSU out of the MWC Championships with an overtime goal.
The Frogs will host Big 12 rival Texas Tech for the final non-conference match of the semester, taking on the Red Raiders at 7 p.m. Oct. 9. TCU owns a 6-2 home record against TTU since the all-time series began in 1994.
After hosting Air Force on Oct. 14, TCU will honor the senior class and conclude the home schedule at Garvey-Rosenthal Soccer Stadium versus Wyoming at 1 p.m. on Oct. 16. The Frogs will round out the regular season by traveling to Boise State and New Mexico, Oct. 21 and Oct. 29, respectively.
The MWC Championships will be hosted by New Mexico in Albuquerque, Nov. 3-6.
