Former Frogs Carder, Fobbs to play in all-star games

Former TCU linebacker Tank Carder and safety Johnny Fobbs will have one more chance to showcase their skills on the collegiate level when they compete in all-star games Saturday.

Carder will play in the East-West Shrine Game at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Fla.. The East-West Shrine Game can be seen on the NFL Network at 3 p.m. CT.

Carder, a two-time All-American, who was named Mountain West Defensive Player of the Year the past two seasons, also was invited to the NFL Combine Feb. 22-28 at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Ind. Carder was second on the team this year with 70 tackles. The Sweeny native also returned two interceptions for touchdowns, making him TCU’s all-time career leader in that category with three.

Fobbs will play in the National Football League Players Association Collegiate Bowl this Saturday, Jan. 21 at the Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif. Fobbs was TCU’s fourth-leading tackler (65) in 2011 and placed second on the team in pass breakups (six) and forced fumbles (three). The Fort Worth native, who earned his bachelor’s degree prior to the season, started all 13 games for the Frogs.

Former TCU punter Anson Kelton competed in the Casino Del Sol College All-Star Game in Tucson, Ariz. Monday night. Kelton, a four-year starter for TCU, averaged 40.2 yards per kick, placing 14 inside the 20-yard line in 2011. He set a Poinsettia Bowl record with a 67-yard punt, the second longest of his career.

Kelton, Carder and Fobbs were members of the winningest class in school history, compiling a 47-5 record over the past four seasons and finishing with a 3-1 bowl record.
