True freshman Deante’ Gray scored a touchdown on his first career punt return, and quarterback Casey Pachall completed 9-of-9 passes for 201 yards and three touchdowns as the TCU football team got out to a 42-0 lead over Grambling State at halftime Saturday night.
After the TCU defense forced a three-and-out on GSU’s first possession, Gray fielded the punt around the Frogs’ 30-yard-line, retreated a few yards then reverted his path across the field 70 yards for the score.
Less than six minutes later, TCU held a 21-0 lead after Waymon James scored on a one-yard run and safety Elisha Olabode returned an interception 28 yards for a touchdown.
Pachall would go on to complete touchdown passes to Josh Boyce twice, and to Brandon Carter. His last one to Boyce was a short screen pass that Boyce took 66 yards to the end zone.
James led the team in rushing at the half with 69 yards on 5 carries.
Boyce finished the half with four catches and 102 yards.
Jaden Oberkrom, a true freshman, was a perfect 6-for-6 on extra points.
