About these jobs

The TCU 360 newsroom is overseen by a leadership team composed of an executive editor and three managing editors. The leadership team's role is wide-ranging and ideal candidates have a strong vision for student media and good leadership skills.

  • As a member of the leadership team, expect to spend several hours a day in the newsroom four days a week, with weekend work as news coverage demands.
  • The leadership team is responsible for all news products -- TCU 360, the TCU Skiff, TCU News Now and TCU Sports Now -- produced by student media.
  • Past experience with student media is not required, but strongly recommended, for members of the leadership team because understanding how student media work is essential to being able to effectively lead the organization.

Here are a few general things to know about the team leader positions before applying:

  • Each team leader will work with a small group of reporters from various classes, along with volunteer reporters, to cover a specific targeted area of campus.
  • Teams will be composed of reporters from the reporting, multimedia reporting, newscast and sports reporting classes, meaning there will be a wide range of talents and experience levels on each team.
  • Team leaders will also function as senior reporters, working general assignment shifts throughout the week, covering breaking news and helping the leadership team update the website and manage day-to-day activities at student media.
  • Each team will cover a specific topic. In the past, those topics have included sports, administration, student organizations, academics, facilities, etc.
  • As a team leader, expect to attend a weekly team meeting and a monthly or semi-monthly all-staff meeting and to work a few general assignment shifts during the week. Expect this job to require 20-25 hours a week of work, with some weeks involving additional hours because of big stories or breaking news. Also expect to be on-call occasionally during nights and weekends.
  • All team leader jobs will be salaried positions, paying $400 to $500 a month.

And here's what you should now about the Skiff and News Now/Sports Now jobs:

  • The Skiff and TCU News Now/TCU Sports Now production teams will be responsible for taking content from the content teams (above) and showcasing it in the newspaper and on television.
  • As the Skiff editor or News Now/Sports Now executive producer, you will not be responsible for assigning and editing stories or for managing a staff.
  • The TCU News Now/Sports Now crew chief is responsible for overseeing Wednesday afternoon studio productions and hiring and supervising the production staff.

  • As a member of the leadership team, expect to spend several hours a day in the newsroom four days a week, with weekend work as news coverage demands.
  • Past experience with student media is not required, but strongly recommended, for members of the leadership team because understanding how student media works is essential to being able to effectively lead the organization.
  • Summer staff is responsible for generating stories as well as managing reporters. There will be a section of Reporting taught over the summer.
  • All summer jobs will be salaried positions, paying $650 to $800 a month.
