Student Body Vice President of Operations Joshua Simpson unveiled plans and designs for an on-campus student memorial at the Student Government Association Meeting on Tuesday.  The student memorial will be built in honor and remembrance of university students who have died, Simpson said.

The Harris College of Nursing & Health Sciences established a new mentoring program designed to ease the transition for first-year nursing majors. Twenty-nine junior and senior nursing students have applied and been accepted as mentors for first-year students seeking guidance during their first year of nursing school.

The average student at a national university, such as TCU, is showing that it is becoming less common for college students to graduate in four years or less.  In 2011, a U.S. News and World Report Rankings showed the national four-year graduation rate was 40.1 percent. According to the report, most students take up to six years to graduate.

Kappa Lambda Delta Sorority Inc. celebrated its founders week by hosting five senses experiments to support autism awareness.  There was a table for each sense and experiments designed to overwhelm the senses. For example, putting headphones in on a high volume and trying to speak to the person next to you, or tasting sour, sweet and spicy in under a minute.

TCU Family Weekend featured a 42 percent increase in attending families this year compared with last year, Kim Turner, assistant director of student activities, said. This year, 3,788 people pre-registered for family weekend versus 2,668 people who pre-registered last year, Turner said.
