Patterson to hold signing day press conference
Head football coach Gary Patterson will hold a signing day press conference Wednesday at 2 p.m. in the Four Sevens Team Room, media relations director Mark Cohen said in an email.
Wednesday is the first day high school recruits can sign national letters of intent.
According to Purplemenace.com, a TCU recruiting site, the Frogs have received commitments from 18 recruits, including four-star prospects Devonte Fields (defensive end) and Griffin Gilbert (tight end).
Fields, an Arlington native, is ranked by Rivals.com as the 12th-best weak side defensive end in the country after racking up 73 tackles and 13 sacks for Martin High School last fall.
Gilbert’s brother, Garrett, recently transferred to SMU from the University of Texas, where he started 14 games over three seasons at quarterback.
Four-star quarterback Tyler Matthews signed with TCU early and is already enrolled in classes.
Matthews threw for 2,842 yards and 24 touchdowns as a senior at McPherson High School in Kansas and is ranked by Rivals as the sixth-best pro-style quarterback in the country.
Running back B.J. Catalon, defensive back Keivon Gamble and athlete Kolby Listenbee are TCU’s other early enrollees. All three are ranked with three stars by Rivals.com.
Gamble, a Dallas native, who committed to SMU out of high school in 2009, is a transfer from Trinity Valley Community College in Athens.
