Brittany Slyman scored TCU’s only goal as the TCU Women’s soccer team was defeated in its match against the University of Oklahoma Sunday afternoon, 3-1. The Horned Frogs started out aggressively in the first period, taking a lot of shots on the offensive end.  Kelly Johnson led the way with 3 shot attempts but was unable to tally a goal.

1. How will Trevone Boykin respond to being the number one guy at quarterback? Answer: Boykin was 22-for-30 passing for 261 yards and four touchdowns. It appeared the full week of preparation helped the redshirt freshman prepare for his second start. Boykin led a TCU offense that took care of the football, not committing a single turnover in the game for the first time this season. Boykin was in control and able to spread the ball around on offense, as eight different TCU players recorded receptions in the game.

TCU grabbed the No. 23 spot in the first BCS poll of the season. The Frogs were one of seven Big 12 teams in the BCS top 25. Kansas State took the No. 4 spot and Oklahoma ranked ninth. Baylor, Kansas and Oklahoma State did not make the BCS poll.

The Horned Frogs went up in both polls this week and ended up at No. 27 in the Associated Press poll and No. 21 in the Coaches poll. You can see the entire list here. Last week, after a loss to Iowa State, TCU was ranked No. 29 in the AP poll and No. 23 in the Coaches poll.

TCU's next home football game versus Texas Tech will begin at 2:30 p.m. and can be seen on ABC, Director of Athletics Media Relations Mark Cohen said in an email.   The Horned Frogs will appear on ABC for the first time since a 17-10 season-opening victory at Oklahoma in 2005, Cohen said.

The TCU defense forced six Baylor turnovers and the offense converted a late interception into seven points to beat the Bears 49-21 at Floyd Casey stadium. Quarterback Trevone Boykin threw for 261 yards and four touchdowns in his first collegiate road start. He also ran for 56 yards. Baylor’s Nick Florence had 289 yards, two touchdowns and four interceptions.

Within seconds of the first quarter, Baylor started the game just as it did last fall with a 75-yard pass to senior wide-receiver Terrance Williams for a touchdown.

The TCU men’s basketball team had its first official practice of the 2012-13 season Friday under new head coach Trent Johnson. “I’m always excited whether it’s the first day or the last day,” Johnson said in reference to the start of the season. “I’m always excited. They’re [the players are] excited which is probably more important.”

A conference rivalry is reintroduced as TCU faces off against Baylor University in Waco this Saturday. Dating back 113 years, the rivalry is one of the oldest and most often played football series in the history of college football.
