Completion date unclear for DMC renovation

Heavy rains could send TCU basketball back to Wilkerson-Greines Activity Center.

It’s uncertain when the $45 million renovation of Daniel Meyer Coliseum will be complete, said Ross Bailey, TCU’s associate director of athletics.

“I would say right now, that the original completion date has slipped to an unknown point because of the weather,” Bailey said.

Work was expected to wrap in October.

If work on Daniel Meyer Coliseum overlaps with basketball season, any move to Wilkerson-Greines would be short lived.

“The weather has hurt the progress,” Bailey said. “I still have confidence we can get done before we start playing basketball.”

Bailey also said it’s unlikely TCU basketball would open its season on the road.

“We probably wouldn’t do that to our teams,” he said.

Construction crews are working around the clock to finish construction.

“We have been working Saturdays and Sundays for months now,” said project manager Wesley Hokanson. “We are starting no later than 7 a.m.”

Hokanson said the rain didn’t completely stall construction, but it did slow the process of putting up structural steel.

“There is still work that can be done,” Hokanson said.

In 2013, the Board of Trustees approved a $45 million renovation project to overhaul the aging basketball arena. Construction began in March 2014.
