There is no “blocking” the fact that Regan McGuire has made TCU volleyball history. But to her, it’s like nothing has changed.

“As a driving force, I don’t think there is anything that is different necessarily, but I think that my abilities have grown,” McGuire said.

McGuire, a junior middle blocker, became the first in program history to receive honors for three straight weeks. She was awarded the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week for both of the past two weeks.

She earned Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week honors on Aug. 31.

“I don’t think that means really anything other than I just have to keep pushing,” McGuire said.

McGuire gives a lot of support to her coaches and teammates.

“We are always pushing each other, and the coaches are always pushing us,” McGuire said. “Our team is so amazing. We are so supportive towards one another.”

Not only did she become the first player in TCU history to achieve this, but also the fifth player in the Big 12.

Although she is also ranked number two nationally for blocks per set, McGuire doesn’t see these honors as personal victories.

“It’s been really good with the team,” McGuire said. “I can’t do any of this without my outside blockers helping me out. They’re doing an amazing job.”

Head coach Jill Kramer, who is also the director of volleyball, said McGuire’s consistency has paid off for her and her teammates.

“Her numbers reflect her hard work, commitment and dedication to continuing to learn and improve within our system daily,” Kramer said.

As she looks to the rest of the season, McGuire talks as if there is no stopping point.

“I need to continue to get better, but I’m never there,” McGuire said.

The team travels to Dallas this weekend to take on Southern Methodist University, University of Texas at San Antonio and Clemson University in the SMU Doubletree Invitational. First serve is set for 10:30 a.m. against UTSA.
