Lady Frogs to host No. 23 Colorado State

The TCU volleyball team will look to get back to its winning ways when it hosts nationally-ranked Colorado State tonight at the University Recreation Center. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m.

The Lady Frogs will try to bounce back after getting swept 3-0 at San Diego State Saturday. TCU’s loss to the Aztecs snapped the four-game winning streak and dropped the team to 21-5 overall and 8-4 in Mountain West Conference play. Starting a new winning streak and earning their ninth conference win might be a tough task for the Frogs against the  Colorado State squad.

The Lady Rams are ranked 23rd in the American Volleyball Coaches Association poll and have been winners of seven straight and 12 of their last 13. In that streak, CSU has not lost a set, taking 21 straight, three of which came in a 3-0 victory over TCU on Oct. 15.

The Rams held the Frogs under 20 points for all three sets; no TCU player notched more than eight kills.

But while TCU may have gotten swept by both Colorado State earlier in the season and San Diego State Saturday, the Frogs’ loss to the Aztecs was more competitive.

TCU forced all three sets against SDSU into overtime but eventually fell short, losing 30-28, 28-26 and 26-24.

Three TCU players had double-digit kill totals with sophomore Yvonne Igodan leading the way with a team-high 16 kills. Kristen Hester tallied 15 kills while fellow senior Jordan Raines had 12. Junior Megan Munce led the team with 43 assists.

Tonight’s match will be TCU’s second-to-last contest before beginning play in the Mountain West Conference tournament Oct. 18. The Frogs wrap up regular season play against Wyoming Saturday at home.

What’s at stake: TCU will have a chance to notch its first win against a ranked opponent. In their previous two tries, the Lady Frogs were swept at home against by then-No.5 Texas and swept on the road by Colorado State on Oct. 15.

Last time out: TCU was swept 3-0 by San Diego State on Saturday.
