Slideshow: Students run in The Cowtown

Students in the running clubs from Lily B. Clayton Elementary and Tanglewood Elementary Schools participated with hundreds of other kids in The Cowtown races Saturday.

Lily B. Clayton and Tanglewood, among many other schools, set up booths in the Amon Carter Exhibit Hall, where they met with their teams to prepare for the race. Parents helped put on numbers and students stretched for the race before heading to the starting line.

Both clubs participated in the Cook Children’s 5K Run. Melinda Howson, Tanglewood running club coach and PTA volunteer, said she also had some students who ran in the 10K.

Each coach stressed the importance for the students to have fun and be healthy.

In a pep talk at the Lily B. Clayton booth before their walk to the starting line, Lily B. Clayton running club coach and physical education teacher Tim Dague reminded his students that each one of them had their own running pace.

Howson believed participating in running clubs at either school allowed students to learn things such as teamwork and new ideas of fitness.

“It kind of crosses over into all parts of their lives so it’s just a good way to incorporate all kinds of fitness,” she said.
