Paschal High School, McLean Middle School and McLean 6th are among several Fort Worth schools that district officials anticipate to have increased enrollments this year.

Paschal High School had a projected enrollment of 2,650 as of Aug. 24, Paschal’s data clerk Loretta Harmon said. Paschal admitted 65 more students compared to the 2011-2012 school year, according to enrollment statistics from Colin Cronenberg, administrative associate in Fort Worth ISD’s Division of Technology.

The school has admitted somewhere between 60 and 100 students each year in the past five years, according to Fort Worth ISD enrollment data. Various factors were connected to the changes, Paschal’s principal Terri Mossige said.

Mossige said there are a large number of young adults in Fort Worth and many students attend the school based on its “stellar” academics. She also said the school is not accepting as many transfer students.

Information about registration by grade at Paschal is not yet available. Mossige said due to late enrollers, transfers and dropouts, their data would not be completely accurate until a couple of weeks after the school year began.

McLean Middle School also saw an increase in their student enrollment. McLean Middle allowed an estimated 130 additional students into its facilities on the first day of school, while McLean 6th accommodated an estimated 22 students, according to McLean administrators.

Only two schools in 76109 forecasted a decrease in registration. According to school officials at Westcliff Elementary, 496 students enrolled on the first day of class, a decrease of about 10. Westcliff students in first and fourth grade represent the only grades that show a projected increase in numbers.

Alice Carlson Applied Learning Center also saw a small decline in registration. School officials said 388 enrolled, six less than the 2011-2012’s registration of 394.

However, Carlson and Fort Worth Academy of Fine Arts were the only two schools that did not expect a change in their registered students, administration said.

Carlson officials said because it is a school of choice, their enrollment would probably not change. FWAFA administration allowed 520, which was the total number they said they would accept.

Administration from Tanglewood Elementary did not respond about its enrollment statistics in time for publication.

Complete data about enrollment in public schools in Fort Worth ISD would not be available until the last week in October, Cronenberg said.
