Texas-bound Hicks leads Martin over Paschal

The Arlington Martin Warriors beat the Paschal Panthers 63-9 on Thursday night.

The loss dropped the Panthers to 2-4 and 0-3 in district play. The Warriors improved to 4-2 and 3-0 in the district.

The Warriors jumped on the Panthers early when senior running back Kyle Hicks scored on an 8-yard run. The touchdown came 64 seconds into the game.

The Panthers came right back with a touchdown on their first drive: a 25-yard pass from sophomore quarterback William Floyd to junior running back Darell James. The extra point failed to make the score 7-6 Martin.

The score was the first touchdown scored by Paschal since its 41-0 win over Dallas Sunset on Sept. 21.

The Warriors scored on their next possession on an 11-yard run by freshman running back Nick Smith.

Senior wide receiver Ben Noel returned the ensuing kickoff 77 yards to the Martin 22-yard line. That return set up a 20-yard field goal from sophomore Christian Vazquez to make the score 14-9 Martin.

The Warriors scored on their third straight drive when Hicks threw a 30-yard touchdown passs to senior tight end Skylar Tardy.

Hicks, who has committed to play at the University of Texas next year, accounted for 275 total yards and four touchdowns in the first half.

Paschal then recovered a Hicks’ fumble at the end of the first quarter. Floyd then threw an interception to Jared Phipps on the next play.

Hicks scored a touchdown on a 1-yard run on Martin’s next drive to make the score 28-9 early in the second quarter. Hicks continued his performance with a 72-yard touchdown run on Martin’s next possession.

The Warriors extended their lead when senior defensive back Trevor Stewart returned an interception 26 yards for a touchdown.

Late in the second quarter, Hicks threw a 36-yard touchdown pass to Tardy to make the score 49-9 at halftime.

Senior wide receiver Devon Anderson scored another touchdown for the Warriors with an 8-yard touchdown run. That score gave Martin a 56-9 lead early in the third quarter.
After Floyd threw his third interception of the night, Smith scored his second touchdown of the night on an 11-yard run.

Smith rushed for 118 yards on 11 carries. Floyd completed 16 passes out of 28 attempts for 162 yards.

Paschal will look to win its first district game at Weatherford on Oct. 19.
