A club is bringing Christian women together at TCU and colleges around the country.

Ft. Worth’s newest taco joint is flaming hot

Even at 9 a.m., customers fill the booths at Torchy’s Tacos, the newest taco joint in Fort Worth.

Open since December of last year, the restaurant at the corner of Forest Park Boulevard and Rosedale Street is attracting customers from across the area.

“I actually live on the other side of town,” said customer Ryan Higgs, who was Torchy's because his friends recommended the restaurant.

Higgs chose “The Trailer Park,” fried chicken on a flour tortilla with Torchy’s own poblano sauce.

The restaurant currently employs about 60 people to serve the constant flow of customers.

Michael Rypka, former executive chef, founded the company in 2006. Rypka said he followed his dream of starting a restaurant by opening the first Torchy’s as a food trailer in Austin. Since then, Torchy’s Tacos has grown into a chain of 14 stores across Texas.

Despite construction near the restaurant, business has still been good.

“It’s stellar,” said Dagon Owen, the store’s general manager. “We’re the number one store in the company.”

Unlike the original Austin locations, the Fort Worth store is a full restaurant boasting full indoor and outdoor seating. It is also the third Torchy’s to feature a bar, which boosts its popularity among locals.

“It’s been crazy busy,” said bartender Kaye-Leigh Hamrah. “I think that’s due to a lot of word-of-mouth. It’s fresh, it’s fast and it’s affordable.”

Owen stands by his restaurant's quality.

“We’re about fresh product and get produce in the back door six days a week,” said Owen. “If there’s pico in the walk-in for 24 hours, it’s going in the trash.”

Torchy’s Tacos is located at 928 Northton St. and is open seven days a week.

“Were just here to serve… good food,” said Owen, who encourages customers to like the restaurant’s Facebook page for updates and information.
