A three-run fourth inning and a leadoff home run in the sixth led Arlington High over Paschal 4-1 Friday night.
The Colts put the first run on the scoreboard in the fourth inning. Arlington’s Raul Flores hit a one-out double to right center, and Kenzie Algood followed with a single down the left-field line. A walk to Spencer Witherspoon loaded the bases.
Cade Olson scored two with a single to right-center field, allowing Witherspoon to move to third. Then in an attempted pickoff to first baseman Patrick Studey made a bad throw to shortstop Beau Campbell, allowing Olson to move to third safely, and let Witherspoon cross the plate.
The Panthers scored their only run of the game the fifth inning. Camilleri hit a one-out double to right-center field and moved to third on a Campbell single to center. During Nurdin’s third at bat of the night, the catcher let a ball go past him, allowing Camilleri to cross the plate, making the score 3-1.
Arlington did not wait long to get the run back. Flores led off the inning with a home run that bounced off of the left center field fence to go over.
Paschal’s Hunter Speilman came in relief after starter Austin Perryman’s went 3 2/3 innings. Speilman struck out seven in his 3 1/3 innings of work.
The Panthers’ offense had threatened in the first, putting three men on base. Drake Camilleri reached on a walk, Hunter Nurdin singled to left field and Miguel Carreon was hit by a pitch. The inning came to a quick end when Studey hit into a 6-4-3 double play the next at bat.
Paschal will play at home again Tuesday night against North Crowley at 7 p.m.
