Mother, 3 children hospitalized after train hits SUV

A mother and three children were transported to local hospitals Thursday morning after an SUV was struck by train at the 1500 block of West Biddison Street.

According to a press release from the Fort Worth Fire Department, firefighters were dispatched to a call at 7:17 a.m. Thursday that indicated a vehicle had collided with a train.

Reports indicate that the driver of an SUV carrying a family of five attempted to cross the railroad tracks as the warning lights flashed and the crossing arms were coming down to stop traffic.

Spokeswoman Carol Jones of FWFD said the SUV was traveling at 25 miles per hour when it was hit by the train. The speed of the train is unknown at this time.

Firefighters on the scene said the vehicle was pushed 200 feet down the tracks before the train came to a complete stop.

The mother and three children had non-life threatening injuries.

As stated in the press release, “The Fort Worth Fire Department would like to remind drivers to use extreme caution when crossing train track because trains are often moving much faster than they appear.”
