Cookie delivery business sprouts in the 109

As far as Caroline Schifano is concerned, nothing could be better than cookies.

The 109 resident launched the Cookie Bear, a cookie delivery system, last fall to provide the community with quality homemade cookies.

“My idea for this started in high school around Christmas time, when I told my mom I wanted to put out fliers and advertise homemade cookies to be delivered around the neighborhood,” she said. “It didn’t work out too well.”

Schifano later made the idea a reality.

“During July, I had a cookie tasting with about 14 different samples for each type of cookie and had my sister and friends try each one to get a sample of what I was going to put on my menu,” she said.

Cookie Bear specializes in “made-from-scratch” cookies and delivers them by the dozens to local residents as well as TCU students. Many of Schifano’s customers are TCU students, she said, as there is no delivery charge for students on campus.

TCU student Claire Wagner recently ordered from Cookie Bear her first time and said the experience was the highlight of her day.

“I think the best thing about Cookie Bear is how fast the service is and how sweet they are about everything,” said Rachel Gans, who is part of the Cookie Bear’s Monthly Cookie Club. “My mom asked for Valentine’s cookies for me on Valentine’s Day, and they had them to me within an hour with a smile on their face.”

Schifano said she is in the process of working with Fort Worth businesses to expand her customer base and has also brought on partner Laura Ashmun, who joined the business in January.

The average number of orders received by the Cookie Bear varies each week, however, Schifano said about 10 orders a week can be expected. She also said Valentine’s Day was the company’s busiest so far.

Cookie Bear provides a wide array of cookies including classics such as chocolate chip, snickerdoodle and sugar at a cost of $12 per dozen plus a delivery fee, which varies according to distance.

The company also makes specialty cookies including peanut butter Nutella, various gluten-free cookies, iced sugar cookies and unique products such as cookie chips and bear squares.

Cookie orders can be made any time and placed online through the website, by email or by telephone. Cookies are delivered Monday through Thursday from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m., but special orders and orders for events can be made Friday, Saturday and Sunday as well.
