This weekend’s top entertainment picks will add some holly jolly to Christmas moods.

First pick for this weekend is the Starlight Symphony at West Seventh Street.

Activities are scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. Nov. 21, and the lighting ceremony will happen at 7 :30 p.m. according to the event website.

Starlight Symphony is a five-minute light show coordinated with music, said Angela Hall, director of marketing.

There will be carriage rides and a quartet of carolers dressed in Victorian costume will sing traditional Christmas carols, she said.

According to the website, a special guest will attend the event. And yes, you guessed it. It is Santa!

Don’t worry much about the weather, because the high is expected to be in the 60s. But in case it gets cold, Rafain Brazilian Steakhouse, located  at 2932 West Crockett St., will offer free hot chocolate outside their door, Hall said.

Second pick this week is Panther Island Ice which is scheduled to open 3 p.m. Nov. 21 at Coyote Drive-In.

Panther Island Ice is an ice rink that skaters of all ages can enjoy. Skaters will skate to the tunes playing over the Coyote speakers, said Matt Oliver, public information officer for Trinity River Vision Authority.

The ice rink, which is 50 percent larger than last year, is open seven days a week, including holidays and will stay open until Jan. 19, Oliver said.

“We had over 550 attendees on Christmas and over 300 on Thanksgiving last year,” he said.

Admission is $11 and includes skate rentals. Discounts are available for active-duty military, guard reservists and their families, Oliver said. For more information, visit http://pantherislandice.com.

Pick No. 3 this weekend is the Sundance Square Christmas Tree Lighting scheduled for 6 p.m. Nov. 22 at Sundance Square Plaza.

According to Sundance Square’s website, the lighting of the 58-foot tall tree will mark the start of the Christmas season. Festivities start at 4 p.m. and will include stilt walkers, holiday face painters and holiday characters.
