Southwest Library offers activities for homeschool children, parents

The Southwest Regional Library, 4001 Library Lane just off South Hulen Street, has resumed its Homeschool Activity Day program.

The next Homeschool Activity Day will be Thursday, Dec. 18.

Cari Hinson of the 109’s Briarhaven Road neighborhood said she thinks it’s great that the library hosts those educational programs, because it gives her children an opportunity to interact with other homeschooled kids.

“Any meeting space for home school families to come together is nice, because it give the kids a chance to network,” youth librarian Robin Marshall said.

The afternoon home school program is a branch of the community’s Worth Reading Initiative that was started from a collaboration of Forth Worth Independent School District, the city and the Fort Worth community.

Youth program librarian Cheryl Thomas said that the purpose of starting the Worth Reading Initiative was to expand the library’s traditional summer reading program because of the concern that kids keep reading during the summer.
