Slide the City waterslide waiting to be ridden.

Attendees hoping to ride the “Slide the City” 2,000 foot slip-n-slide Saturday morning and afternoon left disappointed.

The customers who purchased tickets for the morning wave waited hours, only to find out Slide the City’s morning wave was cancelled.

Tommy Peterson, the franchise owner for Slide the City, said the cancellation was due to “mechanical issues.”

Slide the City relies on a third party company to deal with the pumps and power, Peterson said. “Neither the pumps nor the power were working so unfortunately we cancelled because we don’t know when the slide will be functional,” he said.

The third party rental was Sun Belt rentals, and they declined to comment on the mechanical problems.

Peterson said that people who bought tickets for the morning wave of the Slide the City will get a full refund. Purchasers should expect a refund within 5 to 10 business days.

Mayor Betsy Price was going to start the slide off by going first, but the delay moved later and later until it was canceled.

Peterson said many people missed out on the slide due to the delay.

“I just feel exceptionally sorry to those people that came out expecting to have a great morning and we weren’t able to fulfill that,” Peterson said.

One teenage girl passed out in the wait due to heat-related issues.

Due to the heat, Fort Worth firefighters used their truck to spray down those waiting in line about an hour into the wait.

Jason Brown, a Fort Worth resident, said he felt “frustration” with the way everything was handled.

“The scheduling messed me up because I had to go to a YMCA little league baseball game,” Brown said.

The 2,000 foot long slip-n-slide was supposed to run from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.  The morning wave was cancelled earlier in the day, with later notice given stating that the afternoon wave would also be cancelled.

“We are as disappointed as you are that the wave is cancelled and are so sorry for inconveniences caused,” said Slide the City’s website.

The evening wave is still on schedule to run from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. until further notice.

It is still unclear if Slide the City will still attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the longest distance travelled on a slip-n-slide in one hour.

PantherFest is still going on as scheduled with concerts, foods and venues.
