Volleyball downs Baylor for another sweep

The Horned Frog volleyball team earned its 11th sweep of the season in Waco Wednesday night, sweeping Baylor improve to 17-7 (7-5 Big 12) on the season.

The Frogs took the first set 25-18 before winning the second set 25-19. The final set came down to two points, with the Frogs emerging victorious 25-23 to complete the sweep.

It was the seventh Big 12 win of the season for the Frogs, the most they have ever recorded in conference play in a single season.

The Frogs tallied 41 kills and 45 digs in the match. Junior Natalie Gower dominated in the victory, leading the Frogs with 10 kills and tying a team high in the match with four blocks. Junior Ashley Smith also had a strong outing with seven kills on the night.

“This team is very determined and they have bounced back really well after losses and moved on,” TCU Director of Volleyball Jill Kramer said. “The girls kept fighting and grinding through it and getting a better and better effort every point. They stuck with it and that is what it took.”

Kramer said the the team prepared hard for the match against the Bears.

“Our team worked really hard in practice the last couple of days and we grew a lot in practice this week,” Kramer said.

The Frogs will get back to action when they travel to Lawrence, Kansas on Saturday to take on the No. 10 Kansas Jayhawks. Match time is set for 1 p.m.
