Although most TCU students were enjoying the long holiday weekend, several Horned Frog sports teams were in competition both home and away.

Here’s a roundup of how the purple and white squads fared over the weekend.

Men’s basketball falls in Lawrence

The Horned Frogs rallied late but couldn’t overcome a rough first half as they lost to the No. 1 Kansas Jayhawks on the road Saturday, 70-63.

Michael Williams, Brandon Parrish, and Chauncey Collins all finished in double figures, while Vladimir Brodziansky tallied 12 rebounds.

Head coach Trent Johnson said while he’s “not into moral victories,” he was proud of the way his team “competed” against a tough team.

Women’s basketball drops game to Kansas State

A rough shooting night doomed the Horned Frogs in Manhattan, Kansas, on Saturday night as they fell to Kansas State 58-49.

The Frogs shot just 28.3 percent from the field and scored only 14 points in the first half.

AJ Alix was the only Frog to notch double figures, with 13 points.

Men’s tennis enjoys success in Florida

The Horned Frog men’s tennis team traveled to Fort Myers, Fla., for the Three Oaks Shootout hosted by the No. 6 Illinois squad.

TCU beat USF and Ole Miss on Friday and Saturday, respectively, before drawing Illinois on the final day of competition Sunday.

Head coach David Roditi said the weekend was a good experience for the Frogs, especially considering the heavy winds that blew through the region during the tournament.

Women’s tennis competes in Illinois

The TCU women’s tennis team split its matches in the first two days of the Wildcat Duals in Evanston, Ill.

On Friday, the Horned Frogs knocked off DePaul by a score of 6-2. TCU dropped a close match on Saturday to No. 26 Northwestern, 6-4.

At press time, Sunday results against Alabama were unavailable.

Track takes home medals in College Station

The men’s and women’s track team competed in the Texas A&M Team Invitational on Friday and Saturday, with several members taking home individual honors.

Brianna McGhee took first in the women’s 60-meter dash with a time of 8.31 seconds, while Bowerman Award Watch List member Ronnie Baker earned silver in the men’s race with a time of 6.65 seconds.

Tiffany Terry won bronze in the women’s 400-meter race with a time of 54.73. Nafissatou Boixel and Briona Oliver won second and third in the long jump, respectively, to round out the list of TCU athletes that made a podium spot.

Swimming and diving splits meet

The women’s swimming and diving team improved to 4-0 all time against West Virginia with a 157-143 win on Saturday, while the men dropped a narrow decision 154-144.

The Frogs won 14 events on TCU’s Senior Day. Head coach Richard Sybesma said he “couldn’t be more proud of how [his] team competed today.”

The women’s match came down to the last race of the day, the 400-meter freestyle relay, which TCU won with a time of 3:31.92 seconds.

Undefeated women’s rifle opens spring season
