The TCU Women’s Business Network is implementing changes this semester to encourage member feedback and provide more leadership opportunities.

The organization was created in 2011 to provide networking connections and educate business majors on gender issues in the workplace.

Changes include an “open-door policy” where members can email ideas to the president, member surveys and an annual philanthropy event.

“We’re going to change the focus to be more based on what our members want,” President Nicole Peterson said. “We really want to focus everything towards giving them leadership opportunities.”

The club also plans to partner with other organizations to expand its members’ networks.

A collaborative speaker event with TCU’s chapter of Delta Sigma Pi, a professional business fraternity, is planned for later in the semester.

“We want to get more involved in the Neeley community by co-hosting events and making it possible for members to be a part of multiple business organizations at once,” said Sarah Setlak, a sophomore pre-business major.

Sophomore pre-business major, Katherine Drake said the connections the club can provide is one of the reasons she chose to join this year.

“I hope this club will keep me connected after graduation,” Drake said. “I can talk to others based on experience and help others later on too.”

Even though the program is changing, Setlak said the impact of the organization and importance of empowering women in a male-dominated environment is still the same. 

“We were doing some statistics one day and in the higher ups there are almost no women, so I realized how important this organization is in bringing out the qualities women can bring to the table,” Setlak said.
