The Horned Frogs took an important game 1 in their weekend series against Oklahoma.

TCU starting pitcher Luken Baker went six strong innings for the win on Friday, giving up just one earned run with four strikeouts and three walks. Oklahoma starting pitcher Ryan Madden lasted only three innings, giving up three runs on six hits. The TCU offense would later explode to win 11-3.

Austen Wade and Evan Skoug provided more than enough offense for the Frogs. Skoug went 4-4 with 5 RBIs, including a 2-run home run in the bottom of the first.

The Frogs jumped ahead early in the first, but a throwing error by TCU second baseman Ryan Merrill led the way for a quick Sooner’s response, who tied the game at 2 in the second.

Skoug singled in Wade in the third to give the Frogs the lead.

The fourth inning brought additional runs in for TCU. After an Oklahoma pitching change, Watson drew a lead-off walk that sparked a six-run fourth inning. The Frogs notched five singles in a row before Skoug doubled to cap the inning.

Oklahoma responded in the top of the fifth with one run on a sac fly by Sheldon Neuse. The fifth inning was the last offensive inning for the Sooners — they got one hit throughout the rest of the game.

The Frogs sought out insurance runs in the bottom of the eighth inning. A Wade walk, Skoug single, and a Baker single led the Frogs to two more runs.

The Frogs finished the game with 14 hits, five walks and seven left on base. The Sooners managed just four hits, four walks and five left on base.

Wade was a key player to start offensive rallies. In four at-bats, Wade scored four runs and notched one RBI. Skoug ended the night with a two-run homer, two singles and a double.

Baker moves to 3-1 on the season with the win.

The Horned Frogs will finish the series with a doubleheader against Oklahoma on Saturday due to possible inclement weather. Game times are 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. at Lupton Stadium.
