TCU police issued a crime alert informing students of an off campus assault Sunday.

A female TCU student was sexually assaulted at a bar near campus early on Sunday morning, a crime alert issued by the TCU police department said.

According to Detective Robert Rangel, the student was at an event hosted by a fraternity at a local bar at around 1:45 a.m. when a male student “suddenly and unexpectedly touched her inappropriately and beneath her clothing.”

Rangel said the female student made attempts to separate herself from the suspect, but the male student resisted until a friend intervened.

According to the crime alert email, “The circumstances and manner of the contact constitute a criminal offense of Sexual Assault, under Texas Penal Code Title 5, Sec. 22.011, carrying the penalty of a second degree felony.”

In the email, Rangel urged students to report activity immediately to the campus police department at 817-257-7777. He also stressed that “no action or inaction by a crime survivor makes that person responsible for his or her victimization.”
