Volleyball

TCU volleyball fell to Iowa State on Saturday in front of a sell-out crowd.

The Frogs went toe-to-toe with the Cyclones early on in the first set. But it was Iowa State who turned up the momentum and came out on top, defeating the Frogs 3-0.

Leading the offense Saturday night with nine kills was Regan McGuire. Anna Walsh finished the night behind her with six. Defensively, Sarita Mikals and Natalie Gower led with three blocks each.

TCU director of volleyball Jill Kramer said this was a tough match.

“That first set was close and we had some good things going, but so did Iowa State,” Kramer said. “I thought we fought tooth and nail with them but just came up a little short there. ”

With the loss, TCU is now 10-9 overall on the season and 3-6 against conference opponents.

TCU has a bye on Wednesday before resuming Big 12 play on Saturday when they travel to to Norman, Oklahoma to face the Sooners at noon inside McCasland Field House.

Rifle

The TCU women’s rifle team smashed records on Saturday, finishing first place at Murray State.

The Horned Frogs fired a program-best score of 4,720, which beats the 4,718 record set by the Frogs against Kentucky in 2012.

This is also the first time in Horned Frog history the team has produced four scores over 4,700.

Sally Li, Mindy Miles and Casey Lutz each produced scores of 586 and Ariana Grabowski scored a match-high 587.

TCU will host its first home match of the season on Saturday when it hosts Nevada.

Equestrian

No. 7 Women’s equestrian defeated No. 5 Fresno State on Friday.

TCU has won three out of four meetings against the Bulldogs.

Senior Brooke Boyle led the Frogs in reining as she posted her second-straight MOP ride of the season and improved to 2-0 on the year.

Freshman Claire Dittrich was victorious in discipline as she won her first point as a Horned Frog. Also improving her record was freshman Jamie Cook, who is now 3-0 in Horsemanship.

Director of equestrian Haley Schoolfield said coming away with a win against Fresno State is a great feeling.

“We were very impressed with the way our freshmen competed in their first away meet,” Schoolfield said. “Now it’s time to dig in and prepare for our Big 12 Conference opener against Oklahoma State in two weeks.”

The Frogs are now 1-1 on the season.

TCU will open its conference schedule on Saturday, Nov. 5 against Oklahoma State in Springtown.

Golf

TCU men’s golf finished 15th at the Golf Club of Georgia Collegiate on Sunday. They finished behind 14 teams that are ranked in the nation’s top 35.

The Golf Club of Georgia Collegiate field is one of the nation’s toughest with 12 top-25 teams.

Giulio Castagnara posted the Frogs’ best round on Sunday with a 2-over 74. Jeong Weon Ko was TCU’s top finisher, finishing in 55th place.

This was the final fall tournament for the Frogs, but they will return to the course in February when they open their spring schedule in Hawaii at the Amer Ari Invitational at Waikoloa Kings’ Course.
