The Frogs started off hot when Cam Warner scored off a double to right field from Luken Baker.
West Virginia leveled the score at one after a lead-off triple down the right field line scored on a sac fly to right field.
The game remained scoreless until the fourth inning with the Mountaineers scoring two runs on two hits. A single followed by a triple to right center from Kyle Davis gave West Virginia a 2-1 over the Frogs. Another sac fly brought Davis home as WVU led 3-1.
Jared Janczak took the no-decision after allowing four runs on six hits in 4 ⅔ innings. Charles King pitched 3 ⅓ scoreless innings. Sean Wymer (2-2) took the loss for the Frogs.
With two outs and a runner in scoring position, West Virginia singled to center field for a run to give the Mountaineers a 3-run lead over TCU.
A comeback was in sight for the Frogs in the top of the ninth as the bats made contact. A lead-off solo home run for Skoug out the Frogs down by two. With Josh Watson and Nolan Brown on, Ryan Merrill singled to right center and Watson came around for another TCU run. Brown sprinted home on wild pitch to Austen Wade with the game-tying run for the Frogs. The game was tied at four going into the bottom of the ninth.
With a walk a base hit, Austen Wade has reached base in 21 straight games.
West Virginia took advantage of a lead-off double in the ninth. A sac bunt advanced the runner to third and the game-winning run scored on a sac fly to give the Mountaineers the walk-off victory.
With the loss, TCU falls to 27-6 overall and 8-2 in Big 12 play. Game 2 of the series against the Mountaineers is set for Saturday afternoon. The first pitch will be thrown at 3 p.m. (CT).
