Voices of a cappella singers carried through the Campus Commons Wednesday night as TCU’s A Cappella Society hosted its annual Fall Concert in the Brown-Lupton University Union Auditorium.

The evening kicked off with a performance from VoiceMale, an all-male a cappella ensemble from Edward S. Marcus High School.

The first performances of the year for TCU’s all-female a cappella group, “Here Comes Treble,” and the all-male group, “The Horned Tones,” followed the opening act.

Senior Demi Fritz, the president of TCU’s A Cappella Society and a member of “Here Comes Treble,” said she was pleased with the outcome of their first concert.

“We have a lot of new members,” Fritz said. “This was the first time that some of them have ever performed in front of people, so it was really cool to watch them rise to the challenge.”

Ray Shideler, a senior and the president of “The Horned Tones,” said he was glad to see a positive reaction from the audience.

“I think both groups were happy to see a good turnout tonight,” said Shideler. “We’re happy to see that people are excited to have a cappella back on TCU’s campus.”

The start of a new a cappella season means the addition of new members for both groups. Shideler said it has been very easy incorporating “The Horned Tones’” four new members.

“They all just fit right in with our group culture,” he said. “They’re all super talented guys, so we’re really happy to have them as part of the group.”

TCU’s all-female a cappella group is looking forward to integrating its new beatboxer into the group’s overall sound.

“We’ve never had a beatboxer before,” said Fritz. “She’s a freshman and she knew how to beatbox, so it was really exciting that she fit right in.”

“Here Comes Treble” and “The Horned Tones” are heading to Southern Methodist University Nov. 17, where they will perform alongside SMU’s a cappella groups.

In preparation for competition season, both groups are practicing and working hard to improve on last year’s feedback, so they can have an even better year this time around.

“We’re working everyday to try and make it the best group possible,” said Shideler. “We’re a senior heavy group with a lot of guys graduating at the end of this year, so we want to leave with no regrets.”

Fritz said “Here Comes Treble” also has goals to achieve this year.

“I think our focus is really to grow our sound as a group and progress how we can learn music,” Fritz said. “Our goal is to do even better this year and increase our scores.”

“Here Comes Treble” and “The Horned Tones” are scheduled to perform on campus again at the Winter A Cappella Concert Dec. 6 in the BLUU Auditorium.
