No. 20 TCU beach volleyball dropped a pair of 5-0 losses to No. 3 Hawaii and No. 1 Pepperdine on the opening day of the East Meets West Challenge Saturday at Manhattan Beach Pier.

In the matchup against Hawaii, the combos of Jillian Bergeson and Jaelyn Greene; Cassie House and Haven Hill; Molly Scheel and Hannah Rogers; Avery Arellano and Jensyn Bledsoe; and Claire Doyle and Jordan Westendorff lost in their matches. The closest battles of the day occurred when Bergeson and Greene lost to Laurel Weaver and Carley Kan (21-17, 21-13), and House and Hill fell to Ka’iwi Schucht and Emily Maglio (21-16, 22-20).

Against Pepperdine, the Horned Frogs lost all of their matchups for the second time in a row, ending a tough day for the team. The combo House and Hill kept a close match with Brook Bauer and Madalyn Roh but ended up on the losing end (23-21, 21-19).

The Horned Frogs, who are in the midst of playing the top four teams in the nation in the challenge, will compete Sunday against No. 2 USC Trojans at 3 p.m. and No. 4 UCLA Bruins at 5 p.m. USC won its only ever matchup with TCU, while the Frogs will meet UCLA for the first time in school history on Sunday.
