No. 11 men’s tennis extended its winning streak to five, escaping College Station with a narrow 4-3 victory over Texas A&M.

After the Aggies won the first doubles match, Alastair Gray and Trevor Johnson earned a 6-4 victory and No. 21 Alex Rybakov and Guillermo Nuñez beat Texas A&M’s No. 19 Juan Carlos Aguilar and Jordi Arconada, 6-4, as TCU picked up the doubles point to jump out to an early 1-0 lead.

“The doubles point can be a critical point and I felt like we took advantage of opportunities and we showed a lot of poise in tough situations in doubles,” head coach David Roditi said.

In singles play, Rybakov defeated Arconada, 6-0, 6-4, as the reigning Big 12 Player of the Week stayed hot, earning two more victories Tuesday night.

No. 64 Trevor Johnson lost a hard-fought match to A&M’s No. 6 Arthur Rinderknech, 4-6, 7-5, 6-2 to get the Aggies on the board. That was followed by Barnaby Smith’s straight set win over TCU’s Reese Stalder to even the match at 2.

First-year Bertus Kruger defeated A.J. Catanzariti, 6-3, 2-6, 6-2 and senior Guillermo Nuñez downed No. 25 Valentin Vacherot, 6-3, 7-6 (7-5) to secure the Horned Frogs’ victory over Texas A&M.

“Tonight was a huge road win for our guys,” Roditi said. “There were tough conditions and this is a very tough place to play and our guys were ready and more importantly resilient and mentally tough.”
