TCU soccer lost their first home match of the season Sunday, falling 2-0 to the West Virginia Mountaineers.
The Mountaineers scored about as quick as they could to start, as senior Sh’Nia Gordon scored in the 25th second of the game.
The Horned Frogs got their first shot on goal in the 23rd minute when senior Kayla Hill’s shot was blocked on its way to the goal.
The team would have a few more opportunities as the game went on, including two attempts in front of the goalie in the 67th minute by senior Karitas Tomasdottir, but were ultimately shut out for the second time this season.
“We weren’t good enough,” said head coach Eric Bell. “Our mentality wasn’t the best, and I think that’s a credit to them.”
The Mountaineers would seal their victory in the 73rd minute when sophomore Stefany Ferrer-vanGinkel received a free kick and slotted it just under the crossbar.
“Hats off to West Virginia for making it uncomfortable for us,” said Bell. “It was an opportunity lost.”
The Horned Frogs will look to regain their momentum after a 0-1-1 start to Big 12 play when they travel to take on the Baylor Bears Friday. Kick off is set for 7 p.m.
