TCU volleyball completed a huge comeback in the fourth set to defeat Louisiana 3-1 (25-13, 26-28, 25-18, 25-23) Friday night to improve to 2-0 in the Fight in the Fort tournament.
“Our team had a pretty hard-fought battle tonight,” Head Coach Jill Kramer said. “Louisiana is a solid team, they played against us really well offensively. I love how well our team fought back tonight.”
The Horned Frogs came out firing on all cylinders, with a dominant 25-13 first set win.
The second set was a whole different story, with TCU finding themselves behind 9-5 early. However, with a 5-1 run, the Horned Frogs took a 17-16 lead. Both teams went back and forth to end the set and found themselves tied at 25. With a costly service error by Senior Anna Walsh and two back to back kills by Louisiana, the Ragin’ Cajuns took the second set.
“No errors by [Louisiana] in the second set, which also said a little bit about how we played in the second set, [we] didn’t do enough blocking wise to slow them down. We played pretty undisciplined,” Kramer said.
TCU came into the third set with a fierce mentality, dominating like the opening set and took it 25-18.
The fourth set started off neck and neck and the teams were tied at 11 at the midpoint. Louisiana ran away with the lead with an 11-3 run to make the score 22-14.
The Horned Frogs then went on an 11-1 run of their own to win the set and the match.
“Great serving performance from Anna Walsh in end of [fourth set] and great defense by our team,” Kramer said. “It was a fun match to be part of especially in that set.”
Offensively, TCU finished with a team hitting percentage of .350 and 67 total kills.
First-year Elan McCall led the Horned Frogs in kills with 25 in addition to 22 digs, one assist along with a .429 hitting clip.
Sophomore Tori Dilfer had a big night in assist’s with a team-leading 57 and found herself in double digits in digs with 11.
The team had solid defensive numbers all around, racking up nine total team blocks and only allowing Louisiana to come up with a .212 hitting percentage.
Senior Lexi MacLean, 14, and sophomore Berklie Baker, 17, finished with double digits digs as well.
The Horned Frogs will be back in action Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. against Montana State to conclude the Fight in the Fort tournament.
