Today, we’ve got news on President Donald Trump’s meeting with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un in Hanoi, a growing fast food problem in the U.S. and flooding in California.

U.S. and North Korean Nuclear Treaty talks end with no deal

Nuclear summit talks between the United States and North Korea ended early Thursday with no deal.

According to an article by NBC, Trump said discussions began to stall when North Korea demanded all sanctions on their nuclear programs be lifted in exchange for the Pyongyang weapons program.

Trump said there has been progress made from years past and he was in “no rush” to come to an agreement right away.

Pakistan to release Indian pilot to deescalate pressure

Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan told parliament Thursday he plans to release a captured Indian pilot on March 1 as a part of a “peace offering,” according to CBS News.

Conflict between the two nations erupted in air combat this week over the highly contested region of Kashmir.

Indian fighter jets took the Pakistani boarder in retaliation of Pakistani airstrikes on Indian soil the previous day, resulting in an Indian jet being downed and the pilot captured.

Khan said he is ready bring this to an end.

“I want to say it to India today: Don’t take this any further, Pakistan will be forced to retaliate.”

Virginia first lady scrutinized after giving African-American children cotton on slave tour

Virginia first lady Pam Northam is under fire Thursday after allegedly handing cotton to African-American children while giving a tour of the governor’s mansion.

According to CNN, the incident took place in the cottage of the mansion, where slaves used to work.

Leah Dozier Walker, the mother of one of the children, said Northam then handed cotton from a bowl to the only three African-American children on the trip, and asked them “if they could imagine what it would have been like to pick cotton all day?”

Northam responded to the controversy and said she has given the tour the same way for months and “will continue to engage historians and experts on the best way to do so in the future.”

A fast food problem

An article by FOX News sited a study done at Boston University that shows how 10 popular fast-food chains have gotten more unhealthy.

The study found that although there are more choices offered today, calorie count and sodium levels in entrees has increased over the last 30 years.

Researchers at Boston University have linked this spike to an increase in portion sizes, and stress the importance of finding ways to reduce caloric and sodium intake at fast-food restaurants.

Doctor disarms gunman in veteran hospital

A Florida doctor is being hailed a hero Thursday after sustaining injuries from overpowering an armed patient, according to ABC.

The suspect was scheduled to receive a mental health evaluation before he pulled out a small pistol and began firing.

The doctor sustained a wound to his neck but is in stable condition, and the hospital is deemed fully secure and operational.

Russian River overflows, thousands of buildings flooded

The onslaught of rain in Northern California has caused the highest levels of flooding in the Russian River in 25 years.

Thousands of homes and buildings have been flooded. In some cases, entire towns, like Guerneville, California, have received as much as 20 inches of rain over two days, according to the Sacramento Bee.

Two dozen communities are still under evacuation orders even though authorities report receding water levels.

The National Weather Service flood warnings are still active through 11:15 p.m tonight.
