The second leg of back-to-back road matches proved successful for TCU soccer on Sunday, as they earned a 2-0 victory over the UAB Blazers in Birmingham, Ala.

The win, which follows a 2-0 loss to No. 1 Florida State, will send the team back to Fort Worth on a positive note.

“It’s good for bonding and it’s also good for creating adverse conditions,” head coach Eric Bell said. “There was the heat, starting earlier than we had planned. They came out with a challenging formation that was hard to figure out. With all those different things, to come away with a nice victory is good.”

TCU scored in both halves, with a goal from Tara Smith in the 25th minute and Gracie Brian’s first-career goal in the 64th minute.

Smith’s opener was TCU’s first goal of the young season and the fourth of her career.

“It was a lot better in all phases of the game whether it be attacking, defending or set pieces we were sharper,” Bell said. “Hats off to UAB for making the game hard for us. I thought our kids did great. They made good, simple decisions to keep the game going.”

This result was the Frogs’ first all-time victory against the Blazers, who had beaten the Frogs their previous three meetings.

The Horned Frogs will face Sam Houston State in TCU’s home opener on Thursday, Aug. 29 at Garvey-Rosenthal Stadium.
