Brady leads Tampa Bay Buccaneers to Super Bowl win

Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers defeated the Kansas City Chiefs Sunday night to win Super Bowl 55.

Brady led the Buccaneers to a 31-9 win over the Chiefs, according to the New York Times.

This win comes after the NFL decided to play this season as scheduled during the COVID-19 pandemic.  

Brady has now won seven Super Bowl titles and was voted the game’s MVP.

Democrats begin important week in Washington

Democrats have an important week ahead as they plan their next steps for President Biden’s COVID-19 relief package.

Among the issues under discussion is raising the minimum wage to $15, something on which not all Democrats agree, according to CNN.

Who meets the income threshold for the planned $1,400 stimulus checks is another concern.

House committees plan on having the legislative text for the coronavirus relief bill completed by the end of the week. 

U.S. avalanche death toll rises to 21

The avalanche death toll in the U.S. has risen to 21 this season after four skiers died in Utah over the weekend. 

The skiers were in an area that had the risk of an avalanche labeled as “high,” according to the Washington Post.

They had packed equipment such as shovels and probes. 

Skiers in the area were also urged to stay on slopes of less than 30 degrees. 

Pope Francis uses annual address to discuss effects of the coronavirus on humanity

Pope Francis described the world as “seriously ill” when discussing the effects the coronavirus had on individuals worldwide.

The pope was talking not only in terms of the coronavirus but “even more in its human relationships,” according to the Washington Post.

He discussed school shutdowns as well as those who may be struggling due to unemployment.

Pope Francis did mention the U.S., but only to voice concern over the California wildfires.
