After three of their matchups were canceled, the Horned Frogs (4-5) returned to action Sunday afternoon for their first matchup in three weeks.

The Frogs started the game with a 19-14 lead, but the Mustangs came climbing back to end the first quarter on a 7-0 run. The avalanche continued as SMU proceeded to outscore the Frogs, 23-5 in the second quarter.

The lead ballooned to 30 points in the third quarter, as TCU was never able to gain traction and get the deficit under 10 points.

The Frogs had trouble shooting the ball all game long, converting only 35 percent of their field goals and 30 percent of their three-point attempts.

By contrast, the Mustangs shot 45 percent from the field and 46 percent from three, while also only turning over the ball six times.

TCU senior center Kayla Mokwuah had a productive afternoon, tying her season-high of 12 points and setting a new season-high on blocks with two rejections.

Fueled by their veteran guards, SMU saw contributions from across the board. Kayla White remained scorching hot, pouring in 21 points days after her 25-point outbreak versus Arkansas-Pine Bluff. Jasmine White contributed with an 18-point, 11-assist double-double, with her assist number tying SMU’s single-game record.

The 79-53 loss marked the end of the Frog’s six-game winning streak against the Mustangs, snapping a streak that dated back to the 2014-15 season.

The Frogs now have the rest of the week to regroup, finishing non-conference play at 4-5. They are scheduled to face No. 12-ranked Iowa State on the road Saturday, Jan. 8 at 1 p.m.
