TCU alumna plays three strokes off lead at US Women’s Open Championship

Former Horned Frog and current LPGA golfer Angela Stanford will have to wait an extra night to perhaps capture her first ever major championship.

The Fort Worth-native and TCU alumna is currently in fourth place at even par, three strokes off the lead in the U.S. Women’s Open Championship in Colorado Springs, Colo.

The tournament has been marred by several weather delays, and resulted in play being suspended on the final round until Monday due to darkness, according to the LPGA website.

Stanford has played through 14 holes on her final round, and bogeyed the last two to send her back to even, but still has four holes remaining, including a par-5, to make up ground on the leader, Hee Kyung Seo.

Stanford, who graduated from the university in 2000, has won four LPGA tournaments in her career. She came close to winning the Women’s Open in 2003, finishing tied for second, her best finish in a major championship.

According to the U.S. Women’s Open website, the final round will resume at 8 a.m.
