Despite three main members graduating last semester, the cast of Senseless Acts of Comedy have worked together to put on a good show each week, Judith Schomp, the group’s co-president, said.

Schomp said two of the members who graduated have left the Fort Worth area. The group has added new members this year and has started the year off well, she said.

“Each new group and ensemble brings its interesting dynamic to the show,” she said.

Both shows this semester have had a high turnout, Schomp said.

Paige Love, the other co-president of SAC, said about 120 people attend each performance. Love said she believes there are more students coming to shows than the previous year.

“It’s great to start the year off with that many people,” Love said.

Many of the audience members returned every week, Love said. There have been more freshman and sophomores attending so far this year, she said.

“We hope to get the younger years interested, so they will be interested throughout their four years of college,” Love said.

Schomp said SAC does a lot of advertising through social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter. The group posts videos on Facebook to give students a sneak peak of the kind of skits they perform.

Love said she hopes the videos will entice viewers to come see the show.

“It’s trusting our word that we are going to make you laugh on Thursday night,” Schomp said.

Schomp said SAC is an improvisational group, so everything the performers do is unscripted. Improv is different from stand-up comedy, which focuses more on the individual, Schomp said. Supporting the other people on stage was an important part of SAC’s method of improv, which made it more of a collaborative effort, she said.

“The goal of the group is to work well with others,” Schomp said.

Each member brings something different to the group, which makes it fun, Love said.

Love said she hopes she can make SAC fun this year for the members as well as those who watch the show.

“I hope it is something fun people can cherish and look back on years from now,” Love said.

The comedy group is preparing to go to the College Improv Tournament Southwest Regionals on Oct. 15 in Austin.

“We are so excited,” Schomp said.

The group that wins the  regional tournament will move on to the finals in Chicago, Schomp said. SAC has represented TCU at the Southwest Regionals in 2009 and 2010 as well, but none of the previous troupes have moved on to Chicago.

“Third time is the charm,” Schomp said.

Love said the group will try its best in competition, no matter the outcome.

Admission is free to see SAC perform every Thursday night at 9 p.m. in the BLUU auditorium.

Schomp and Love said they encourage students to come out and enjoy a great night.
