The university expected around 80 different law schools on campus Friday for TCU’s first Law School Fair, sponsored by the Southwest Association of Pre-law Advisors.

The SouthWest Association of Prelaw Advisors is an organization of pre-law advisors from schools throughout the southwestern United States, according to the official website. Each year, SWAPLA sponsors a Law School Caravan that tours throughout the southwest, giving students access to the best law schools.

The event took place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Brown-Lupton University Union Ballroom.

Political science administrative assistant Tammy Harding, said the fair is open to all students, faculty, alumni and anyone who is interested in law school. Each law school will have a booth with information and a representative from that school.

Individuals are welcome to come and go from the fair as many times as they wish throughout the day, Harding  said.

The fair is a free event, and there is no prior registration necessary.

Tab Berger, a senior international economics major,  said he had never been to a law school fair, but he hoped that there would be actual admissions representatives at the event.

Berger said he had some idea of where he would like to attend law school and hoped to get some one-on-one time with the representatives from the schools at the fair.

“It could really help with the application process because they might remember my face or have some idea of who I am,” Berger  said.

The event will also host a speaker. Jerome M. Organ, a professor from the University of St. Thomas School of Law, will speak at the event about how to  understand employment and salary statistics, as well as scholarship retention policies. The speech will take place from 1:30 p.m. to 2:45 p.m. in the Miller room at the BLUU.
