Big 12 move sells tickets

The best way to guarantee your season ticket for next year’s football season is to be a season ticket holder this year, according to Director of Media Relations Mark Cohen.

TCU is offering a four game special for the remaining home games and the game against BYU at Cowboys Stadium.

“We’re kind of calling it the move to the Big 12 $212 special,” Cohen said.

The special has had a steady flow of business Cohen said but he could not give an exact number of season tickets sold under the new price.

“With the excitement of the announcement on Monday with the Big 12 move we’ve had a pretty good interest of people wanting to buy season tickets for these last four home games this year to put themselves in position for next year,” Cohen said.

Even before the Big 12 announcement, TCU had 21,000 season ticket holders for this season, Cohen said. That’s an increase from the 19,000 season tickets for the 2010-2011 football season and with the conference switch should mean another record year next year for season ticket sales, Cohen said.

The ongoing renovation of Amon G. Carter stadium will include 50,000 seats. Plans schedule the end of the renovation to finish next summer.

“Look at last year and we had several games: Baylor, Air Force, San Diego State where we had 46-47,000 [people],” Cohen said. “We’ve actually had seven sellouts in our last 11 home games.”

TCU set an individual ticket sale record in 2009 when 50,307 tickets were sold for the game against Utah.

Ticket sales for other sports have not been changed been modified due to the Big 12 move because ticket prices for next year have not been set yet, Cohen said.
