MWC volleyball tournament starts today

After a loss to Wyoming, the TCU volleyball team is on its way to New Mexico to compete in the 2011 Mountain West Championship.

“I’m excited, and I think that last loss to Wyoming stung us pretty good,” senior communication studies major Kristen Hester said. “I think we’re going to have more fight than ever.”

The volleyball team will compete today against Boise State, whom the Frogs beat twice already this season. The team has defeated all of its upcoming competitors except San Diego State University, the University of Nevada, Las Vegas and Colorado State. The Lady Frogs’ efforts ranked them third in the conference.

“We cannot let the previous wins over Boise relax us,” sophomore pre-major Yvonne Igodan said.

The winner of the tournament will leave with bragging rights and a bid to the NCAA conference championship. Colorado State left as the champions last year.

“We want to get into the NCAA tournament so bad,” Hester said.

After four years, senior strategic communicationsadvertising and public relations major Jordan Raines said her positivity and leadership helped her teammates on the court.

“I think we’re the best team there, and we should win,” Raines said.

The volleyball team will compete against No. 6 Boise State to start off the second quarterfinal of the championship today at 3:30 p.m. The match will air live on The Mtn.

If the Horned Frogs win the match, they will play San Diego State University or the University of Nevada, Las Vegas tomorrow at 6 p.m. in New Mexico.
