Witness: TCU kicker was trying to retrieve phone

DENTON, Texas (AP) — The man who accused TCU kicker Ross Evans of kicking in his door says he had already returned a stolen cellphone Evans claims he was trying to retrieve.

According to the Denton Record-Chronicle (http://bit.ly/thAr4G ), police reports say the man admitted to "stupidly" stealing a cellphone at a party from a woman he knows.

However, the man said he returned the phone to the woman. The woman confirmed this but told police Evans, who dates her roommate, didn't know that and went to retrieve it.

Evans is free on bond charged with misdemeanor criminal trespassing. If convicted, Evans could get up to a year in jail and a $4,000 fine.
